Our partners
Balmar
The charging behind our engine. Balmar makes high-output alternators, voltage regulators and battery monitors that charge your batteries and keep track of them.
Balmar is one of our partners. This page is our own short summary of balmar.net.
Who they are
More than 40 years
Balmar has served the marine industry for over 40 years, supplying DC charging products and battery monitors.
Who it’s built for
Sailors, power boaters, RVers and industrial equipment companies.
What they’re saying right now
Their homepage headline is simple: “We know how to charge your batteries.” They promise more charging amps at low and high engine speeds, up to 30% faster and more complete charging, longer battery life and less fuel burned.
They’re also featuring their next-generation, expandable battery monitor.

Alternators
High-output alternators, including the XT-Series. Ours are two 48V alternators on our Beta Marine engine.

Voltage regulators
Smart regulators like the MC-618, which work with the Balmar app. Each of our alternators has its own regulator.

Battery monitors
The SG200 battery monitor, with display options and the Balmar app.
Their site also has charging-system guides, manuals and a distributor finder.
On Sophisticated Lady
When the engine runs, two Balmar 48V alternators charge our lithium house bank. Balmar isn’t Victron, but it feeds the same system.
What we run
- Alternators: two 48V Balmar 96-Series high-output alternators, about 10 kW of charging between them
- First test: 6,000W from a single alternator
- Regulators: one for each alternator, port and starboard
- Feeding: our 48V lithium house bank, about 30 kWh
- We’ve run Balmar on Sophisticated Lady since we bought her
How it fits our power system
Solar does most of the work on a sunny day. When the engine runs, the Balmar alternators add their charge to the same 48V system, run by a Victron Quattro around the clock.
